When I read this this morning I thought this is an April Fools joke but my friends at EMI just confirmed it: Douglas Merrill will be the new president of EMI (once Guy Hands goes back to focus on Terra Firma business again). I don’t know much about Douglas but this surly sounds like a very clever move from Guy Hands and this really gives me hope for EMI. More soon.

Paul Birch sent this around the other day and I thought it was hilarious. For those who don’t know, the chap on the left is Guy Hands who runs the company that has recently taken over EMI, Terra Firma. The guy on the very right is Ricky Gervais performing with Colplay’s Chris Martin. Coldplay is (was?) signed to EMI. Actually, you have to check out the TV show ‘Extras‘ (which is very funny by the way) to understand the irony of this picture.
